The 1860 census was discussed here yesterday because of its relevance to the Civil War. All of have a tendency to quote the numbers and say "there were xxx people ..." or whatever, but the underlying process behind those numbers had its own problems.

We have a hair-trigger problem with racism in this country. Any opposition to President Obama's policies are called racist-not in backwoods bars, but in the front pages of the New York Times and the rest of progressive media.

The secession of Southern states, as they said, was about slavery. They talked about the rights of states with regard to slavery, and perhaps you can call this a "states rights" issue -- but I have large problems with it being called "states rights INSTEAD of slavery ( Read more... )
